Join us for a frosty STEAM adventure! In this interactive January STEAM Lab, kids will investigate what makes ice melt faster—or slower by exploring two real-world winter science mysteries: how salt melts ice on roads and how insulation keeps people and animals warm.
Young scientists will make predictions, test different materials, sprinkle melting agents like salt and sugar onto ice, and build mini “ice protectors” to see which ones keep an ice cube frozen the longest. Through hands-on experimentation, kids will uncover the science of heat transfer, freezing point changes, and winter survival, all while observing dramatic melting (and non-melting!) in real time.
This STEAM Lab is designed for kids in grades 2–5 and encourages curiosity, problem-solving, and discovery-based learning. Register online, at the Youth Desk, or call 928.777.1537.
Prescott Public Library and Yavapai Exploration and Science are teaming up to offer school-age children a chance to experience STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) through interactive and engaging activities. Presented with funding from the Friends of the Prescott Public Library.
